The principle of Nafy al-Sabil (“denial of domination”) is regarded as one of the fundamental jurisprudential and Qur’anic principles and constitutes an important theoretical foundation for explaining relations between Muslims and other communities and for safeguarding the independence and authority of Islamic society. The primary textual basis for this principle is the Qur’anic verse: “And never will Allah grant the disbelievers a way over the believers” (Qur’an 4:141), which indicates the rejection of any form of domination, influence, or superiority of outsiders over the community of believers. Given the expanding dimensions of security in contemporary studies and the need to reconsider the Qur’anic foundations of national security, the central problem of this study is to examine the potential of the principle of Nafy al-Sabil for developing a Qur’anic model of national security and for identifying its components and functions. The study aims to extract and explain the components of national security from the perspective of the Holy Qur’an on the basis of Nafy al-Sabil and to analyze its role in ensuring the security of Islamic society. This study employs a descriptive-analytical methodology and draws upon library-based data, including Qur’anic, exegetical, and jurisprudential sources. In this regard, verses concerning the rejection of domination, preservation of independence, prevention of foreign influence, and strengthening of authority are examined and analyzed. The findings demonstrate that the Holy Qur’an does not define security merely as the absence of military and political threats. Rather, it presents security as a multidimensional and civilizational concept encompassing ideological, cultural, political, economic, and social dimensions. Accordingly, Qur’anic national security consists of five principal components: ideological security, cultural security, political security, economic security, and social security. As the governing principle underlying these dimensions, Nafy al-Sabil contributes to the realization of sustainable security by safeguarding religious identity, preserving political independence, reducing economic dependence, countering foreign influence, strengthening defensive capabilities, and consolidating social cohesion. The findings indicate that Nafy al-Sabil, beyond being a jurisprudential ruling, has the capacity to provide a comprehensive model of national security—one grounded in monotheism, dignity, independence, justice, and the rejection of domination. Such a model can provide a theoretical framework for rethinking Islamic security studies and conceptualizing sustainable security in Islamic society.
